“Happy Anniversary” to Gentog of Tigard Oregon!

We are happy to announce that we celebrated our first anniversary on April 22!  It’s been a fun year, and we’ve been blessed to meet so many great people and families.

We opened our doors with two clients…precious Hailey and our beloved Anne.  We’re happy to say that both are still with us…and they’ve been joined by lots of great kids and seniors.  We are also blessed to still have the same staff members plus one new addition this year.

We’ve decided to start a newsletter to keep you up to date with what’s going on at Gentog.  We hope you enjoy it!

At GentogChild Care News-Updates from Murt

Happy Birthday Gentog!  One year ago, on April 22, 2008 we opened our doors.  On our opening day Hailey was our only child.  Now we are blessed with 18 adorable children.  What a wonderful time it has been getting to know each of the children, watching them grow and mature right in front of our eyes.

As you may know child care is a new field for me.  I have so enjoyed watching our staff work with the children.  Miss Elaine (shown above) is my Co-director, and spends her days with the 2 year olds.  I love to visit her class and watch the children listen to the stories she reads, participate in the art projects and marvel at the way she is able to keep their attention focused on the moment.  Elaine loves the children and is an integral part of their daily lives.

Ms. Beth  is our Lead Teacher in charge of our 3 to 5 year olds and is a true gem.  I watch her keep these young minds interested in science, art and language.  She does an excellent job using our curriculum “Exploring Gods World” teaching the children how to play with one another with love and respect.  She spends her day giving positive feedback and love to each child.
Our teachers are continuing their education after hours and on Saturdays to insure that our children get the best possible training and care.

What a joy it is to see the children and the seniors participate in our intergenerational activities.  These moments are more precious than I could have ever dreamed.   We do, indeed, have the best of both worlds here at Gentog.

We are looking at 2009 with great excitement as we add more children to our group.  We have 3 two year olds who will move up to the pre-school group between now and July, which will open more space for our toddler class.   With continued growth we will hire another teacher(s) this year.  Our goal is to have 40 full time children in our pre-school group and 5 in our toddler group.

To our Gentog parents:  My door is always open, if you ever have a concern or would like to give suggestions please feel free to see me or give me a call.  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of yours and your children’s lives. We consider you a part of our Gentog family.

Senior Services News-Updates from Marcie

Our seniors at Gentog have fun days.  They spend time visiting,  playing games, working puzzles, exercising, going for walks, snacking, reading…you name it, they do it!   Cathy  is in charge of personal care.  Her enthusiasm encourages everyone to participate.  Her sense of humor keeps the day lively.  And her truly good heart makes the care she provides top notch.

Lisa  plans all of the activities, including the Intergenerational Times, for our seniors.  Days are planned around the participants, so flexibility is key.  Games are modified so everyone can enjoy them.  Holidays are observed, tea parties are enjoyed, and there is even the occasional dance party!

Cathy and Lisa were recently joined by our former PCC Intern Nicole.  Together they make a dynamite team!

Senior services at Gentog include more than social activities.  We provide incontinence care, bathing assistance, walking assistance, as well as help with feeding as needed.  While primarily a Social Daycare for Seniors, we work with families to provide the same loving care that you do at home.

We are pleased to announce that we are an approved provider of Daycare services for Medicaid.

We now provide services to more than 20 seniors.  Some come daily, some once or twice a week, and many come on a drop-in basis.  We are happy to work around family schedules.

In 2009 we will continue to add services for our seniors.  If you have any ideas or requests, don’t hesitate to ask…we’re here to help! www.gentog.com
